Content May Be King, But Consistency is its Queen
I've made over 4,000 designs on Canva. I love playing with the platform since its inception. To say I enjoy creating visual and written content is an understatement. I love designing and writing, telling a brand's story, and developing its voice.
But I have to admit that while content is king, consistency is its queen. Especially if you're starting out, one piece of content on one platform every few days will get the same traction a turtle would get trying to push a grocery cart.
No matter how good the Instagram reel, blog post, YouTube video, or LinkedIn article is, it is but a drop in an ocean of information uploaded on the internet every second.
According to the latest estimates, 402.74 million terabytes of data are created each day. This includes 7.5 million blog posts, 1.3 billion Instagram photos, 500 million tweets, and 1 billion Facebook stories shared—each day.
Let that sink in for a few seconds.
So a "la di da" approach isn't going to cut it. Unless you have very deep pockets to turn those into sponsored ads, maybe you'll have a chance. But even that route isn't guaranteed.
So what should the rest of us do?
Keep producing good content and do it consistently. Let one good post a day on one channel serve as a warm-up. If it's Instagram or Facebook, gradually up it to 2, then 3 with varying formats (posts, stories, reels). Mix photos and videos, long and short copy, and purpose (educate, show behind the scenes, promote, etc.).
Some platforms like LinkedIn or YouTube can do with less frequent posting, like 3-5 times per week, but the content for these channels tends to be longer and more thought out.
Don't have a monologue. Engage with people through questions, polls, calls to action, and promptly respond to comments and comment on other account posts. It is called social media for a reason. Don't forget that first word.
Keep pumping out content. Marketing is a long (and never-ending) game. Experiment, study your data on a regular basis, and adjust your strategy accordingly.
Don't be afraid to take risks. Always try new things. It's the fastest way to learn what works and what doesn't. Don't just copy the look, feel, and voice of other brands who seem to be doing well online. They might be talking to a whole different audience than yours.
Make your message clear.
Keep your design simple.
Experiment.
Take risks.
Study your data.
Iterate.
And show up. Every. Single. Day.
